MUSCAT – FashionTV takes you for an indepth look at the first day of Muscat Fashion Week 2011 in Oman. The fashion show takes place in Muscat, amidst a gorgeous mountainous landscape near the water. Host Maria Ljungstrom lounges against the beautiful backdrop. Muscat Fashion Week is the first time there is a fashion week in Oman. Beautifully cloaked women enter the location of the show as the models hurry to get ready backstage with hair and makeup. Robert Abi Nader's show is full of unique dresses, some with bouncy hems and polka dots, others with tiered skirts and flowers. Wedding gowns and dresses the likes of which you could see at the Oscars are showcased in haute couture style, which the designer says is accurate for his collection. The designer works with beautiful fabrics and the design is classic. Nawal Al Hooti is decidedly more conservative with extravagant cloaks in beautiful colors, rather than exuberant gowns. Her style is traditional Oman style with a modern twist. Amina Al Jassim is more of the same–traditional style, beautiful colors, but adds her own elegant touch. Zarif Design has long beautifully fitted coats in various style and colors and harem pants. Zolaykha Sherzad said the collection stems from traditional skills from the textile and the weaving to the craftsmanship and embroidery work.
